Before 2010, China’s high-end foundry and high-end equipment manufacturing industry had long faced an embarrassing situation of relying on imported high-purity pig iron. The core production technology of high-purity pig iron was monopolized by foreign enterprises for a long time, resulting in high procurement costs, unstable supply cycles and restricted industrial development of domestic high-end manufacturing. In order to break the foreign technological monopoly and make up for the domestic industrial blank in high-purity pig iron, Hebei Longfengshan New Materials Technology (Group) Co.,Ltd took the initiative to undertake the key technological research task of domestic high-purity pig iron localization. The company set up a special R&D team, invested a large amount of funds in technological research and equipment upgrading, and carried out countless smelting experiments, formula adjustments and process optimization verifications. After years of arduous research and practical exploration, the company independently completed the whole set of technological research and development of high-purity pig iron in 2010, and successfully realized stable industrial mass production. This major technological achievement completely filled the domestic blank in the independent production of high-purity pig iron, successfully replaced imported foreign products, and ended the long-term dependence of China’s high-end foundry industry on imported high-purity pig iron. The localization breakthrough of high-purity pig iron not only greatly reduced the material procurement cost of domestic high-end equipment manufacturing enterprises and guaranteed the stability of the domestic industrial supply chain, but also opened a new chapter for the independent innovation and localized development of China’s high-purity iron-based new materials industry, and accumulated rich practical experience and technical reserves for the subsequent research and development of higher-standard ultra-high-purity iron materials.
